Press Release issued by Montgomery County:
Norristown, PA (July 25, 2017) - PennDOT officials today inspected the Valley Green Road Bridge and ordered it closed immediately due to concerns for the safety of its users. The bridge, which was originally built in 1884 and spans the Wissahickon Creek in Whitemarsh Township, will be closed until further notice. The inspection findings will be reviewed to determine if a short-term fix can be designed and implemented. This closure took effect immediately and traffic will be diverted via a signed detour.
A rehabilitation of the Valley Green Road Bridge has been in design for several years and is included in the County's capital plan with federal, state and county funding. Montgomery County and PennDOT are aggressively purusing the necessary steps to move the work on this bridge from preliminary engineering and into final design. The bridge is currently estimated to go into construction within four to six years.
