Construction has begun to replace the Pennsylvania Avenue Bridge in Springfield and Upper Dublin Townships.
The current work affects the landscape at the Wissahickon Valley Watershed Association's Piszek Preserve as PennDOT begins to clear trees in order to create a temporary road. The temporary roadway will allow motor vehicles to continue to travel on Pennsylvania Avenue while a new, permanent bridge over the Sandy Run Creek is constructed. Tractor-trailers will be required to follow a posted detour during construction activities.
The bridge replacement is part of PennDOT's Rapid Bridge Replacement project, an $899 million public-private partnership between PennDOT and Plenary Walsh Keystone Partners to replace 558 structurally deficient bridges throughout the state. There are five bridges scheduled to be replaced in Montgomery County.
